The travel ticket revolution for 49 euros
May 2024 will be a year from the date of launch of a single ticket for 49 euros in Germany. With it, the user can ride almost all types of public transport in the country for free. The ticket works only with a monthly subscription.
This single ticket became a real phenomenon and one of the biggest public transport reforms in Europe.
Deutschlandticket will continue to work, but its cost may increase. The fact is that the current price for almost all types of transport in Germany is extremely low, so carriers have significant losses due to this.
Is Deutschland Ticket going up in price?
The pass will be extended after May 2024. This was agreed upon by the federal and state governments during lengthy negotiations. But they could not come to an agreement on the increase in the price of the travel ticket. Therefore, it is not yet known how much the Deutschlandticket may cost in the future.
Due to its low cost, transport companies lose large profits. Therefore, the funds remaining in the budget from this year will be used in the next year to compensate for these financial losses.
But such a decision is situational. It is possible that the cost of a single transport ticket in Germany will increase. But to what extent, they will decide in the near future. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport is developing the concept for next year.
