Will the EU force refugees to return social benefits?

Information is being circulated on the Internet that, upon obtaining the status of an EU candidate, Ukraine signed an agreement on the exchange of information, including on the assets of communities. Therefore, starting in 2023, the EU will allegedly have access to information on all assets, property, bank deposits and savings, pensions and salaries of Ukrainian citizens.

This may mean that you may be forced to return the payments and benefits granted along with the temporary protection status if you have concealed something, and you may also be held liable.

So, what to expect?

Firstly, there is no official source that can be referred to to confirm this information.

Secondly, according to paragraph 24, only those persons who have no means of subsistence actually available at the time of the application for assistance are eligible for assistance. What does this mean?

Even if you have a deposit or certain income in Ukraine, but you do not have access to it, do not use it, these funds are not considered actually available.

Do you remember filling out a form for receiving benefits in Germany, and there was a paragraph about your own assets, for example, do you have PayPal or other accounts, and if so, what are they? And, also, a separate item: "Do you have access to these accounts?"

There is also a special appendix to the "Hauptantrag Antrag auf Bürgergeld (SGB II)" that you had to fill out at the Jobcenter if you have any income, it is called "EC".

Also, you should always keep in mind that it is the one who does everything by the book that causes problems. Therefore, if you still work remotely and receive a salary or pension, we recommend that you do not hide this from the employment centre and other authorised bodies.
